Email servers currently limit the size of a single letter to 20MB.
It makes no sense for schools to relax this restriction unilaterally. Because the server you want to send to may not want to receive a large volume of mail. So a single letter size is 20MB, which is about the maximum number a typical server can receive.
Many people will complain, however, why did the server exceeded"" Size limit exceeded"" and refused to deliver the mail for me when it was only 17MB.
The reason is that many email programs, such as Outlook/Outlook Express, re-encode outgoing letters to avoid problems such as garbled Chinese characters. The common encoding method is Base64. Using Base64 for encoding will result in 33% overhead. So while the server limits the size of a single letter to 20MB, the file size you can actually send is only about 20MB/(133%) = 15MB.
